The synovitis (also synovitis ) or synovium inflammation is an inflammatory joint diseases all common inflammation of the inner layer of the joint capsule , the synovium (synovial membranes, synovial membrane). The histological assessment is carried out using the synovitis score .

Acute synovitis

Acute synovitis is characterized by a predominantly granulocytic infiltration of the synovial membrane . It manifests itself in hyperemia (increased blood flow), increased vascular permeability with edema of the synovial membrane and subsequent joint effusion .

Chronic synovitis

In chronic synovitis, lymphomonocytic and plasmacellular infiltration occurs. In some cases villous (= shaggy) proliferation of the synovial cervical cells (villous synovitis) with the formation of pannus tissue, v. a. in rheumatoid arthritis .
