Veit Krenn (born November 3, 1960 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , United States ) is a German pathologist and sculptor of Austrian origin.

Life

Veit Krenn is the son of the Viennese artist Hans Krenn (1932–2007), who worked in the Viennese "Fantastic Realists" environment. Krenn spent his childhood partly in Florida and partly in Vienna. From 1980 to 1987 Krenn studied medicine in Vienna and Bochum . In Vienna he was on 30 November 1987 on the issue of migration and determination of myogenic cells in the embryo to Dr. med. univ. doctorate . From 1988 to 1992 he worked as an assistant doctor at the Histological-Embryological Institute in Vienna. He then worked until 2000 as a research assistant at the Pathological Institute of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . Wuerzburg Krenn was on 21 November 1997 with a work on the theme The expression profile of macrophages antigens, adhesion molecules and chemokines of epithelioid cell granulomas in and kleinherdigen Epitheloidzellreaktion to Dr. med. PhD. On June 26, 2000, Krenn received his habilitation there ( morphological and molecular analysis of synovial B cells in chronic synovialitis: A contribution to the understanding of the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis ) and accepted a call to the Charité in Berlin. There he worked until 2005 as C3 professor for experimental infection pathology and senior physician at the Institute for Pathology. Since 2005 he has been at the Medical Care Center for Histology, Cytology and Molecular Diagnostics in Trier.

Krenn is married to Anke Krenn (née Hecker), a psychiatrist, with whom he has three children.

Work areas

Together with his colleagues at the Charité, Krenn developed the synovitis score . It is a semi-quantitative histopathological evaluation mechanism ( score ) for the diagnosis of rheumatic and non-rheumatic joint diseases .

In interdisciplinary cooperation, Krenn developed the extended consensus classification of the periprosthetic membrane , which enables the various causes that lead to the loosening of endoprostheses and a particle identification in the periprosthetic membrane, which are evaluated on the basis of histopathological features. These scores represent diagnostic scores with high sensitivity and specificity, which have sufficient interobserver reproducibility. In a current publication, the international response of the synovitis score over the last 15 years was presented. In addition, in cooperation with colleagues from rheumatology, anatomy and immunology, data on the molecular mechanisms of the inflammatory reaction were compiled.

As an artist, Krenn creates sculptures that are based on anatomical and pathological forms.
