Systema Solar is an audio-visual collective from Colombia founded in 2006 . The "Y" in Systema, instead of the correct "I" in Spanish, is intended to humorously emphasize the South American origins by deriving the "Y" from the word " Yuca ", which describes a tuber that comes from South America and is popular in Colombia is consumed.

Music style and vision

Systema Solar mixes traditional Colombian Afro-Caribbean rhythms like cumbia , fandango, Champeta and bullerengue with modern electronic dance music such as hip-hop , techno , breakbeats and scratching . The musicians call their particular style of music “Berbenautika”, a play on words made up of “verbena” and “astronauta”. “Verbena” does not mean the plant species of the same name, but the traditional Colombian folk festivals with music and dance. Inspired by this, the 7-person crew travels with electronic sound instruments through their audiovisual shows and creates the exuberant and happy atmosphere in which Colombians celebrate the joy of life. Her topics and texts are socially critical and deal with the everyday life of the people in Colombia and the effects of the value imperialism in the western world that is advancing through economic globalization . Systema Solar sees itself as an ambassador of a lively, diverse and modern Colombian culture, which they present to the world in their live shows and videos in order to positively and actively promote intercultural exchange.
