Syvota ( Greek Σύβοτα ( n. Pl. ), Formerly Mourtos or Volia, Albanian Vola ) is a place with 875 inhabitants in the municipality of Igoumenitsa on the western coast of Greece . It is located on the mainland in the Epirus region and is the namesake of the municipality of the same name.

Other villages in the municipality are Faskomilia, Polyneri, Skorpiona, Argyrotopos and Vryssi.

The next larger city is 24 km north of Igoumenitsa, 12 km north is the place Plataria .

history

Syvota was first mentioned in 433 BC. When a sea battle between the Corinthians and the Corfiots took place off the islands.

Under the name Volia or Mourtos (Βώλια ή Μούρτος), the place was recognized as a rural community (kinotita) in 1919 . In 1927 it was renamed Mourtos, and in 1940 it was finally renamed Syvota. In 1997, with the incorporation of some surrounding areas, it was upgraded to a municipality (dimos). In 2010 Syvota was incorporated into Igoumenitsa, where it has been a municipality since then.
