Télécran is the largest circulation Luxembourg magazine and in German . It combines weekly magazine and program magazine . Télécran has been published since 1978. Since October 1978 the magazine has been published by the Catholic Luxembourg media company " Saint-Paul Luxembourg ", which also publishes the Luxembourg word , the largest-circulation newspaper in the Grand Duchy . The name of the magazine is a combination of the two French words "Télévision" (television) and "écran" (screen).

history

The first edition of Télécran appeared on 21 January 1978 in publishing the Editions Plus, a publishing house, which was founded by former employees of the so far only Luxembourg weekly magazine "Revue" René Bamberg, Sylvie Braconnier-Thoss, Jean Georges and Romain Hilbert. At that time, 20 percent of the publisher's shares were owned by the Sankt-Paulus-Druckerei (today “Saint Paul Luxembourg”). Your representative in the editorial office will be Henri Leyder.

The first edition of Télécran - with 100 pages - is sold for 19 francs (the equivalent of 0.47 euros ). The program from a total of nine TV channels was presented week after week, with the TV section only being one pillar of the magazine. At that time, the magazine's cover offered even less weekly news than typical magazine food such as recipe tips, information about the car, etc.

On October 1, 1978 , Télécran was completely owned by the Sankt-Paulus-Druckerei. Under the title there is now the addition “LW Weekend”, which should indicate its importance as a supplementary magazine for the daily newspaper Luxemburger Wort .

Télécran experienced rapid growth in the years to come. The designation “LW Weekend” disappears from the title in issue 7/1981, Télécran becomes more independent, which is also reflected in the choice of topics. The national, Luxembourg weekly news increasingly determines the cover section of the magazine. Initially mixed with international topics, in the course of the early 1980s the mix of topics concentrated more and more on the events in the Grand Duchy . In the mid-1980s, Télécran overtook its direct competition "Revue" in terms of circulation and reach , and became the market leader in its segment. A position that Télécran has been able to hold to this day.

The number of program columns for the TV stations is also constantly increasing. Today Télécran publishes the weekly program of 73 TV channels. The magazine sees itself as a weekly magazine with a service character that offers a TV program tailored to Luxembourg's viewing habits. The retail price is currently 2.40 euros (as of November / 2013). The magazine is subsidized by the Luxembourg government through press support . In 2013 this amount was 353,057 euros.
