Têtes Raides ( French for hard heads {in the sense of intoxicated} ) is the name of a French rock group that mixes modern circus music with alternative rock elements and also uses poetry, painting and theatrical art.

Band history

It was founded in 1984 in a Paris suburb under the name Red Ted . In 1987 the band name was changed to Têtes Raides. Both appear on the first few releases.

While the music was initially electric and based on punk rock , the entry of the classically trained violinist Anne-Gaëlle meant a stylistic change. Now an expressive voice accompanied the apparently simple music. The multitude of instruments and stylistic devices used now justifies classification in the category of world music or folk rock . You would expect them at TFF.Rudolstadt or in medium-sized clubs like Batschkapp in Frankfurt am Main.

The texts are often clear in their message and always full of black humor. The band also positioned itself on political issues, for example in opposition to Jean-Marie Le Pen in the 2002 presidential election or on the notorious subject of sans papiers (illegal immigrants without a passport) in France .

Jacques Brel , Georges Brassens and the Négresses vertes are often mentioned as musical influences . In Germany, they would most likely be compared with the early clay stones or Element of Crime . They mix musette sounds (“Ginette”) with flamenco (“Expulsez-moi”) as well as postpunk new wave (“Banco”) to a hypnotic sound with danceable rhythms and the powerful voice of Christian Olivier.

Known and loved by a smaller audience, the Têtes Raides give around 200 concerts in France every year. You worked on the album L'Absente by Yann Tiersen . Despite their live quality and popularity, the Têtes Raides perform extremely rarely abroad.
