Türkan Rado

Türkan Rado (born October 30, 1915 in Istanbul ; † March 3, 2007 ibid) was a Turkish lawyer and the first female law professor in Turkey.

Life

Türkan Rado attended the French school Notre Dame De Sion in Istanbul . There she completed elementary and middle school and graduated from high school. She then studied law at the University of Istanbul and graduated in 1936 as the best of her year. In the same year, on the advice of Richard Honey , she was appointed the first female assistant by the Dean of the Law Faculty, Sıddık Sami Onar . In 1938 she received her doctorate on the subject of “ Senatus consultum Vellaeanum ve Romada kadınların borç iltizamları ”. After Richard Honig left Turkey for America in 1939, Rado was initially a research assistant at the Chair of Roman Law . In 1944 he completed his habilitation on the subject of " Senatus consultum Macedonianum ve aile evlatlarının para borçları ".

In 1956 she was the first woman in Turkey to be appointed as a law professor and was appointed professor of Roman law at Istanbul University. In 1982 she retired and in 1987 her book Römische Rechtslehre: Römisches Schuldrecht (tr: Roma Hukuku Dersleri: Roma Borçlar Hukuku ) was published. In an article in the Turkish business newspaper Dünya about the French school Notre Dame De Sion , she and others are referred to as Ataturk's adopted daughter .
