T. Prakasam

T. Prakasam ( Tanguturi Prakasam ; born August 23, 1872 in Kanuparthi , Presidency Madras , British India ; † May 20, 1957 in Hyderabad , Andhra Pradesh ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC), who, among other things, between 1953 and 1954 was Chief Minister of Andhra .

Life

Prakasam completed a law degree and worked as a lawyer and journalist . On April 30, 1946, Mohandas Gandhi became Chief Minister of the Madras Presidency on April 30, 1946 and held this office until he was replaced by OP Ramaswamy Reddiyar on March 23, 1947. In May 1951 he founded the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party in Patna together with Jivatram Kripalani , Prafulla Chandra Ghosh and Rafi Ahmad Kidwai . After its dissolution in 1952, he joined the Praja Socialist Party before he left it in 1953 and founded the Praja Party .

On October 1, 1953, Prakasam became the first Chief Minister of Andhra State and formed a coalition with the Indian National Congress (INC), of which he was a former member. He remained in this function until November 14, 1954, until the state was placed under the direct regency of the central government ( President's rule ) on November 15, 1954 .

On the occasion of his 100th birthday, the previous Ongole District was renamed Prakasam District on May 12, 1972 .
