The TK 10 was in 1949 the first in a number of five-built mobile tower crane company Liebherr in Kirchdorf an der Iller in Upper Swabia .

Mobile tower crane

On 19 August 1949 announced Hans Liebherr TK 10 under the heading Mobile tower crane at the German Patent Office in Munich on. Before that, he refined his idea sketches and had work drawings made by a designer . Finally, he assembled the first crane with some locksmiths and blacksmiths in Kirchdorf an der Iller.

The presentation of the first crane at the Frankfurt autumn fair was a failure. The crane generated interest, but not a single copy was initially ordered or later sold. Fortunately, orders came in a few weeks later. First the trade fair prototype was sold and used in the construction of the Wiesbaden town hall. Four more TK 10 series cranes were manufactured by mostly unskilled workers.

description

The crane had an electrically powered rail carriage and hoist . The adjustment mechanism for the boom was missing. The transmission consisted of exposed gears without permanent oil lubrication. The crane was moved with handwheels. An axle was mounted on the undercarriage of the crane, onto which wheels with pneumatic tires were screwed for road transport. This enabled the crane to be transported on the road. It took two to three hours to set up.

At the end of 1950, one hundred and ten workers were already employed in the main plant in Kirchdorf. They produced 160 tower cranes that year. The company achieved an annual turnover of 2.2 million DM this year . The successor model of the TK 10 with other load moments, the TK 6, cost 8,950 DM (which corresponds to around 25,100 euros in today's purchasing power )
