The TSG Irlich 1882 eV is a German sports club based in the district Irlich the Rhineland-Palatinate town Neuwied in the same district .

Predecessor clubs

TV Irlich was founded in 1882 . From 1922 a handball department was added to this previously pure gymnastics club .

The game and sports club Irlich was founded in 1910 by a few soccer players , who then played against neighboring teams again and again after it was founded. It was not until 1919 that the club took part in regular gaming. Here, finally, a rapid ascent began. In 1920 they became champions of the C-class and could repeat this again in the B-class in the next season. After the 1923 season they were only runner-up in the A-class, but this was enough for promotion to the district league.

Foundation and Second World War

By decree, under pressure from the National Socialists on September 4, 1938, the sports club and gymnastics club became the still existing gymnastics and sports community Irlich . For the soccer team it then went from the district league to the district league and then even in the 1st district class until 1942. However, as the Second World War progressed , gaming operations came to a complete standstill in 1944.

post war period

After the end of the war, the first team took part in the game again in 1946, at that time still under the name SG Irlich . A first official general meeting was only approved again on July 20, 1947. In the 1948/49 season it succeeded for the first time after the war to win the championship again. Thus, the team was allowed to move up to the district league, where the team landed in third place in the first season. With the introduction of a third national league season for the 1950/51 season , however, this third place was enough for promotion to the second-rate league at the time . With 26:34 points, the class could be held here. After the 1951/52 season , however, the now third-class amateur league Rhineland was introduced. Only the first clubs qualified for the new league, but the Irlichern did not succeed with 31:29 points and ninth place. So it continued in the A-Class in the next few years.

Relegations and time in the SG

In 1964, however, this class could no longer be held and the club had to relegate to the district league, but a year later succeeded in direct promotion. This time it was possible to keep the league until 1971. After a disastrous 1974/75 season, in which one almost had to relegate to the 2nd district league, it was finally decided to establish a syndicate with SV Feldkirchen . From the 1975/76 season SG Feldkirchen / Irlich played in the A-class, the place in the 1st district league was then taken over by the second team. In the following years the class could always be held and there were also two runner-up championships.

Rebuilding and steep ascent

In 1981, however, SG was dissolved by TSG. Alone you now had to compete in the district league B again, but had built a strong youth team in recent years, which should now play in the senior division. The 1981/82 season finally ended in fifth place. In 1986 the championship finally succeeded. Another year later, the championship succeeded again, which finally allowed the team to play in the district league again. In 1988 he finally returned to the national league.

Here in the first season with eighth place, a respectable table placement was achieved. But already in the next season it was about the relegation battle, which could be won successfully in the end. So there were a few more years in the national league until you had to leave it again in 1995. Most of the players from back then were no longer available and there was no money for new players, so in the following years it went down to the B-class.

Foundation of another SG

Once again there were difficulties in winning new players for the club , so the SG Irlich / Hüllenberg was finally founded in 1998 with SV Hüllenberg . For the 2000/2001 season, SV Neuwied was added, from which the starting position in the regional league was taken over, the second team now took over the former starting position of the first team in the B-class. In the national league, the championship title and promotion to the association league finally succeeded in the next season, the second team in the B-class succeeded in the same way, which this time also made it possible for them to be promoted.

Due to financial problems, however, there was unrest in the SG and this also affected the players and after even VfL Neuwied had joined the SG, several players left the SG and the first team had to relegate to the national league. The 2003/04 season was therefore difficult, so many players from the second team had to be taken into the first, this weakened them so much that at the end of the season they were relegated. The SG was then dissolved for the following season and the TSG had no choice but to accept the starting place for the second team in the district B league.

Current time

The 2004/05 season closed the team with 41 points in fifth place. After a 13th place with only 20 points at the end of the 2006/07 season, the team had to relegate to the C district league. It was only after the 2010/11 season that the championship and thus the promotion back to the district league B succeeded here. Despite a good fourth place at the end of the 2012/13 season, the club had to compete in the district league C again. From this managed to return to the district league B for the 2015/16 season. With only 13 points, however, after this season it was time to start relegation again. In the district league C, at the end of the 2016/17 season with 29 points, you could only save yourself from a complete crash just over eleventh place. The same thing happened in the following season. With only 13 points, the club was finally over after the 2018/19 season and they had to be relegated to the district league D. To this day, the club plays in the lowest league.
