The TSV Tempelhof-Mariendorf eV 1899 is a sports club in Berlin , which became known nationwide through the success of its women's handball team.

The Union

TSV Tempelhof-Mariendorf was founded on October 4, 1947 from the three clubs in Berlin-Tempelhof and Berlin-Mariendorf: MTV Mariendorf 1889, MTV Tempelhof 1894 and TSV Tempelhof 1892 . The resulting large association now consists of over 1300 members. In 1999, the club's handball department merged with the handball players from Blau-Weiss 90 Berlin to form the “SG TMBW Berlin” syndicate. The volleyball women were promoted to the 3rd division north in 2017 and won the championship in their first season .

In addition to handball and volleyball, the club also has departments for cycling , gymnastics , gymnastics , table tennis , athletics , aerobics , badminton and bounce balls .

The handball players of the TSV

While the TSV men have only been in the 2nd Bundesliga (1986/87) for one year, the women of the club can look back on a greater success story. When the two-pronged Bundesliga was introduced in 1975, the TSV handball players weren't there, but ten years later they were among the founding members of the 2nd Bundesliga. In 1987 they caused a stir in the DHB Cup when they advanced to the finals of the best four - the first and last time the German cup winner was determined in a "final four points round" in the 1986/87 season - and there behind Bayer Leverkusen and TV Lützellinden, but in front of 1. FC Nürnberg took third place.

In 1989 they even made it to the 1st Bundesliga and immediately took third place behind TV Lützellinden and Bayer Leverkusen . One season later, in the 1990/91 season, they slipped to seventh place (tied and with the same goal difference as city rivals GutsMuths), but relegation was never in danger. But then the “Bundesliga company” was over. The club withdrew its team from the Bundesliga. The 1991/92 season also turned into a very dark chapter for Berlin women's handball: Since BVG 49 and TSV GutsMuths could not hold the class, three Berlin clubs had to leave the German elite league. In the 2008/09 season the men will play in the SG TMBW Berlin, which was founded in 1999, in the Berlin-Brandenburg Oberliga, while the women will play in the Berlin Association League.
