TTV Metelen

The TTV Metelen (official name Tischtennisverein Metelen 1946 eV ) is a table tennis club from Metelen . The men's team was once German team champions and twice German cup winners. She played in the Bundesliga for several years . Currently (August 2016) five men's teams (NRW-Liga up to 2nd district class), two boys' teams and a school team are active.

The TTV Metelen was founded on June 2, 1946 (Corpus Christi). After several promotions, the men's team reached the league in 1950, at that time the highest German division. At the German Cup games in 1950, she was second.

In the 1950s, the men and the youngsters achieved numerous successes in the area of ​​the West German table tennis association WTTV. In 1956 and 1958/59 the men's team took third place at the German Championships. In the 1957/58 season Josef Wenninghoff , Horst Langer and Klemens Tietmeyer became German Cup winners. A year later they won the German team championship in the line-up of Josef Wenninghoff, Horst Langer, Klemens Tietmeyer, Hugo Kramer, Paul Hegemann, Jürgen Langer and Hermann Wiedau. For these successes they were awarded the Albrecht Nikolai Cup in 1959 . In 1960 the gentlemen became German runners-up. Metelen did not lose a home game in the major league for about 10 years before TuSA Düsseldorf ended this series of successes with a 9-2 win in March 1962.

When the Bundesliga was founded in 1966 , TTV Metelen failed in the qualifying games. Only at the end of the 1967/68 season was promotion to the Bundesliga. Relegation in 1973 was followed by immediate resurgence. However, in 1974/75 it was only enough for last place. For financial reasons, Metelen dissolved the team and retired to the district class.

Since then, Metelen is no longer represented in the professional sector.
