Thorsten Wehner (2014)

Thorsten Wehner (born August 16, 1967 in Bergkamen , Westphalia ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 2006 to 2016 .

biography

Wehner graduated from high school in 1987 and then did community service . From 1989 to 1992 he studied physics at the University of Dortmund . From 1994 to 1999 he studied mathematics with a minor in business administration at the Distance University in Hagen , but dropped out of the course before obtaining his diploma. During the same period, Wehner worked as an employee of the Landeskontrollverband eV in the dairy industry. He then became a research assistant at the Fernuni Hagen. From 2004 until his election to the state parliament in 2006, he was a freelance lecturer in mathematics.

Wehner is married and has two children.

Wehner is chairman of the Europa-Haus Marienberg Foundation (as of 2015).

Wehner has been a member of the SPD since 1998. From 2002 he was chairman of the SPD local association Wissen . In 2003 he became a member of the executive SPD district executive committee in Altenkirchen . Since 2004 he is a member of the Association of Municipal Council knowledge and spokesman of the SPD faction in the city council knowledge. From May 18, 2006 to December 1, 2016, Wehner was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the Altenkirchen / Westerwald constituency (constituency 2) . He belonged u. a. the committees for education and youth as well as for agriculture and viticulture. He was also the representative for genetic engineering in the SPD parliamentary group.

Controversy

Suspected fraud

On February 1, 2016, the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament lifted the political immunity of MP Wehner and thus cleared the way for investigations into allegations of fraud in his function as 1st chairman of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Kreisverband Altenkirchen e. V. Wehner was again up for election as a direct SPD candidate for his constituency in the 2016 state elections, but could no longer withdraw his candidacy for legal reasons. If a mandate is won, it would be possible to waive it at a later date.

Incorrect information in the CV

On November 11, he admitted to the Rhein-Zeitung that, contrary to the information in the Landtag manual, he was not a qualified mathematician because he had dropped out of his studies. Wehner announced that he would resign his mandate in order to avert damage to the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD and the SPD parliamentary group.
