Horst Langer (table tennis player)

Horst Langer (born July 10, 1939 in Hirschberg ) is a successful German table tennis player . He was twice German champion in doubles. He also won the Senior World Championship in 2002.

Career

In 1950 Langer joined the TTV Metelen association . In 1957 he became the German Youth Champion. In the following years he was one of the best players in Germany. Two times German champion in doubles, with Metelen German champion and two-time cup winners were his further successes. At the end of the 1950s he took part in three country battles. He was first nominated in May 1958 for the fight against Denmark, in which he lost two singles and won one. In 1959 he was ranked 7th in the German ranking.

Langer later celebrated some successes in senior sports . He won the German senior team championship with the TTC Heiligenhaus in 1987 and 1988. At the 11th Senior World Championships in Lucerne in 2002 he was world champion in individual. In 2005 he won the Senior European Championship in singles and in doubles he took silver. Together with his brother Jürgen, he became senior world champion in doubles over 65 in 2010. He also won gold in the single over 70s.

Today (2015) Langer still plays actively in the regional league at TTSC Mülheim 71.

Langer is an honorary member of TTV Metelen.

Private

Langer has a son (Thomas) and a daughter (Indra). He was an insurance salesman. His brother Jürgen played with him from time to time in the Metelen league team.
