background
TUI Sverige was founded in 1961 by Bengt Bengtsson and Håkan Hellström . In the following three decades the company expanded, particularly in Scandinavia . After the tour operator took over a 30 percent stake in the Transwede airline in 1987, it bought the Transwede Leisure division in autumn 1996 , which was subsequently renamed Blue Scandinavia . At the same time, he restructured his business by amalgamating group subsidiaries.
In 1998 the British company Thomson Travel Group took over the majority of Fritidsresor. In the following year Fritidsresor expanded to Poland and also introduced online booking of trips. In 2000 the TUI Group took over the Thomson Travel Group, so that in 2002 Fritidsresor and the subsidiaries Star Tour and Finnmatkat introduced the concise smiley logo. Since the merger of TUI's tourism division with the British company First Choice Holidays in 2007, Fritidsresor has been a subsidiary of the resulting TUI Travel Group.
