TUI Travel PLC was a European tourism group, composed of the tourism division of the German TUI AG and the British First Choice Holidays plc. The company previously listed on the London Stock Exchange was listed in the FTSE 100 . In mid-December 2014, TUI Travel PLC merged as a subsidiary with the parent company TUI AG.

history

On March 19, 2007, TUI AG announced a merger of its tourism division with the British First Choice Holidays . The merger to form TUI Travel PLC was approved by the EU Commission on June 29, 2007. First Choice Holidays shareholders approved the merger on July 25, 2007. The new shares in TUI Travel PLC were first traded on September 3, 2007 on the London Stock Exchange . TUI Travel was fully included in the consolidated financial statements of TUI AG. First Choice Holidays was originally supposed to be completely taken over by TUI AG, but since the capital was insufficient for a complete takeover, TUI AG agreed with the owners of First Choice Holidays to found TUI Travel PLC, in which TUI AG had a stake of 54 percent and the owners of First Choice Holidays held 46 percent.

The new TUI Travel was led by First Choice boss Peter Long as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). TUI boss Friedrich Joussen acted as chairman or supervisory board chairman .

On June 27, 2014, TUI AG announced that it would merge with TUI Travel in the form of a share swap . The shareholders of TUI Travel PLC received 0.399 shares in TUI AG for each share held. The merger was completed on December 17, 2014.

  • TUI Northern Europe (Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia)

  • Mainstream - sale of flight, accommodation and tourist services
  • Specialist Holidays - country specialists, premium trips and life days
  • Activity - yacht, adventure and adventure vacation
  • Online Destination Services - Online Services

The airlines were grouped under TUI Airlines . In addition to TUIfly in Germany, this included the British Thomson Airways (merger of First Choice Airways and Thomsonfly ) and four other smaller airlines. TUI Airlines comprises over 150 aircraft.

Structural data

The new TUI Travel PLC was active in 20 countries, had over 27 million customers and a turnover of around 18.1 billion euros, of which around 14.1 billion euros from TUI AG and around 4 billion euros from First Choice Holidays.

The travel group had around 47,000 employees (33,000 TUI AG + 14,000 FCH), over 3,500 travel agencies and over 101 tour operator brands. TUI Travel had seven airlines with over 150 aircraft ( TUIfly , TUI Airlines and First Choice Airways ). In the 2010/2011 financial year, TUI Travel generated a profit of £ 471 million .
