TV3 is a Malaysian television broadcaster that is part of Media Prima Berhad . In 2013, TV3 remained the free-to-air TV station with the most viewers. Like most Southeast Asian television networks, TV3 is known for its soap operas .

history

TV3 began broadcasting its programs on June 1, 1984 at 6:00 p.m. MYT (Malaysian Time) and was started by then and now Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad .

The television station got into an argument with Singapore because it broadcast programs in Cantonese, which contradicted the Singapore government's policy of promoting Mandarin instead of other dialects in the media. As a result, people in government-built apartment blocks were prevented from installing the special antennas required to receive TV3. Local newspapers and magazines were not allowed to print television programs for TV3, although they were available for the other Malaysian television stations. TV3 was available on Singapore Cablevision (now StarHub TV), the only cable TV operator in Singapore, until the station was removed on July 2, 2002 due to copyright issues.

In 2007, the reality TV show Sensasi was banned on TV3 because host Awal Ashaari was accused of "humiliating a person out of sensationalism," which was accompanied by complaints about actress Rosnah Mat Aris, the Siti Khadijah, wife of the Prophet Mohammed , associated with wooing younger men by women. Another reality TV show, Telescope, was banned in 1995 after panel member Nasir Jani cursed Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad.

In 2010, TV3 aired a controversial advertisement for the festival of the breaking of the fast , which incorporated elements of Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism into the festival of breaking the fast. This sparked great public outrage, especially among Malay Muslims. The ad was then withdrawn after a few days and TV3 fined MYR 50,000 for broadcasting it.

In 2015, TV3 was accused of plagiarism after it became known that its new news design had been copied by Dutch television broadcaster RTL Nieuws , which launched its new news design in May 2014.

Since April 1, 2016, a teleshopping block called CJ Wow-Shop has been broadcast on Media-Prima channels. Some Media-Prima channels (especially NTV7 and TV9) were more affected by the changes. This block caused a lot of criticism on social media because a large part of the daily program was replaced by the CJ Wow Shop, which previously ran mostly repetitions, religious programs and children's programs. This teleshopping block is only at 6.00 am in the morning before the broadcast of the morning show available Malaysia Hari Ini from Monday to Thursday and Borak Kopitam from Friday to Sunday. On December 31, 2018, this teleshopping block was brought forward at 5.30 in the morning before the broadcast of the program Tanyalah Ustaz, which was moved from TV9 to TV3.
