content
Through a small town in southwest desert climate with a blowing tumbleweed . One of the tufts of plants driven by the wind makes contact with the people and animals of the area and forms a very unique character with almost human features. When some men are busy digging a trench, the tumbleweed falls into it. However, the men are eager to help and ensure that the tumbleweed does not get stuck there, but even rises high into the air for a short time. It seems as if he has become a kind of friend for people and animals here in the small desert town, and especially for little Annie.
In the end, however, the tumbleweed gets tangled up in a long fence, in which many others of its kind have already got caught, and have lost their fight to escape the pickets again.
production
It is a production by Camera Eye Pictures Inc. distributed by Continental Distributing.
The film is reminiscent of the French short film The Red Ballon , a classic in children's films.
Award
James A. Lebenthal was nominated with the film at the Academy Awards 1959 for an Oscar in the category "Best Short Film (Live Action)" , but had to admit defeat to Walt Disney and his film Grand Canyon .
