Cristina Teuscher

Cristina Teuscher (born March 12, 1978 in the Bronx , New York City ) is a former American swimmer and Olympic champion.

Career

Cristina Teuscher won the silver medal over 400 meters freestyle behind the Chinese Yang Aihua at the 1994 World Swimming Championships in Rome . She received a second medal as the starting swimmer of the American 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay, which won the bronze medal behind the Chinese and the Germans in the line-up of Teuscher, Jenny Thompson , Janet Evans and Nicole Haislett .

In 1995 she won the Pan American Games in the 200 meter freestyle and finished second behind her compatriot Brooke Bennett in the 400 meter freestyle. She also won the freestyle relay.

At the Olympic Games in Atlanta she reached the final three times. After sixth place in the 200 meter freestyle and eighth place in the 400 meter freestyle, she won gold in the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay with Trina Jackson , Cristina Teuscher, Sheila Taormina and Jenny Thompson before the German relay.

In 1998, Teuscher won silver at the World Championships in Perth together with Lindsay Benko , Brooke Bennett and Jenny Thompson behind the German 4 x 200 meter freshness relay. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, she only competed over 200 meters and won bronze behind Ukrainian Jana Klotschkowa and Romanian Beatrice Câşlaru . At the end of her career, she finished second with the 200-meter freestyle relay at the 2001 World Championships , but the relay was disqualified due to a substitutional error.

Cristina Teuscher graduated from high school in New Rochelle and attended Columbia University from 1996 to 2000 , although there was no competitive swimming program there in 1996. She won every single race she competed for Columbia in the four years. In 2008 she completed her studies at Insead with an MBA .
