Sheila Christine Taormina (born March 18, 1969 in Livonia ) is a former American swimmer, triathlete and pentathlete.

Career

Sheila Taormina attended the University of Georgia . She took part in the Olympic Games four times - and as the first woman in the world in three different sports: swimming , triathlon and modern pentathlon . In 1996 she won gold at the Olympic Games in swimming (women's 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay).

In 1999 she started triathlon and in 2000 and 2004 she started at the Olympic Games - where she finished 6th and 23rd.
In 2004 she became triathlon world champion over the Olympic distance.

In September 2005 she also became aquathlon world champion in Japan.

In 2008 she took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing for the fourth time - now in the modern pentathlon.

Today Sheila Taormina works as a trainer and motivational speaker.

Awards
