Linda June Mackenzie (born December 14, 1983 in Mackay ) is an Australian freestyle swimmer .

Career

Linda Mackenzie starts for the Club Mackay / AIS , since 2003 also internationally for her home country. At the 2003 World Cup in Barcelona , she won the silver medal with the Australian 4 × 200m freestyle relay. In Athens , Mackenzie started in four races as part of the 2004 Olympic Games : She failed in the preliminaries in the 200 m and 800 m freestyle. On her parade route, the 400 m freestyle, she reached the final, in which she was seventh. With the 4 × 200m freestyle relay, she just missed winning a medal in fourth place. She had more success with the relay the following year at the World Championships in Montreal , where the Australian relay won the silver medal. She was sixth over 400 m and eighth over 200 m. The most important event for Mackenzie in 2006 was the Pan-Pacific Championships in Victoria . She was able to win the silver medal in both the 200 m and the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. Bronze came with the 4 × 100m freestyle relay, sixth place over 400 m.

The 2007 World Championships in Melbourne were not very successful . Mackenzie finished eighth in the 400 m freestyle; over 200 m she was eliminated in the semifinals. The Australian found her way back to success in 2008. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , she was eliminated in the 400 m freestyle run, but reached the semi-finals over 200 m. With Stephanie Rice , Bronte Barratt and Kylie Palmer , Mackenzie won the gold medal in the 4 × 200m freestyle relay on August 14 in a world record time of 7: 44.31 minutes.
