Jakob Zili

Jakob Zili ; and Jacob Zyli (* 1481 in St. Gallen , † 10. October 1563 ibid), a businessman and politician was in St. Gallen.

Life

Jakob Zili was the son of Franciscus Zili (* 1439 in St. Gallen; † October 28, 1520 ibid), canvas merchant and his wife Barbara (* 1441 in St. Gallen; † 1509 ibid), a daughter of Konrad Endgasser (1415– 1496) born. He still had five siblings. His uncle was Heinrich Zili , mayor of St. Gallen.

He made a great fortune as a canvas merchant , especially with the trading company that he ran with his brother-in-law Georg Zollikofer from 1519 and with his own trading company, which he founded in 1559.

Due to his activity as a linen dealer , he was a member of the tailors ' guild, and he was also the head of the Notenstein Society .

He held several public offices in the city of St. Gallen and was among other 1546-1550 city of Amman and from 1551 a member of the Small Council .

Jakob Zili was married to Margaretha (* 1490 in St. Gallen; † unknown), daughter of Ludwig Zollikofer (1450–1514), merchant and sack master of St. Gallen , since 1516 . They had a daughter together:

  • Anna Zili (* 1481 in St. Gallen; † October 10, 1563 ibid), first married to Sebastian Gaisberger, second to Hieronimus Hürus and third to Jakob Ehinger.

Since 1535 he was married to Klara (* 1512; † December 25, 1574), daughter of Jakob Gaisberg (* unknown; † 1526), mayor of Konstanz . They had twelve children together.

In 1542 and 1546 he acquired the Weinburg country estate (today Marienburg high school ) in Thal .
