James A. Lebenthal

James "Jim" Avram Lebenthal (born June 22, 1928 in New York City , † November 14, 2014 there ) was an American financial specialist and author. As a film producer and screenwriter , he was nominated for an Oscar in 1959 with his only film T Is for Tumbleweed .

Life

Lebenthal graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1949 and then worked as a journalist for Life and NBC , in film production at The Walt Disney Company and as an advertising copywriter for Ogilvy & Mather and Young & Rubicam .

Lebenthal was the producer and screenwriter of the 1958 short film T Is for Tumbleweed, directed by Louis Clyde Stoumen and starring the then five-year-old child actress Anne Lockhart . For this film he was nominated for the Oscar for best short film at the Academy Awards in 1959 .

In 1963 he joined the by then from his mother Sayra Fischer Lebenthal guided Lebenthal & Company , which mainly with municipal bonds traded (municipal bonds). In the 1970s, he created an extensive marketing campaign with TV and radio spots for municipal bonds, using his knowledge from previous activities at advertising agencies. In 1995 he left the management of the company to his daughter Alexandra Lebenthal . In 2001 they sold the company to Advest, Inc. for $ 25 million. In 2006 he retired from active business at Lebenthal & Company when the parent company Advest, Inc. was sold to Merrill Lynch . In the same year his first non-fiction book Confessions of a Municipal Bond Salesman was published. Two years later, he and his daughter founded Lebenthal & Co. LLC and Wealth and Family Office Management, Alexandra & James .

For his work in the financial sector, Lebenthal has received awards for life's work from the National Federation of Municipal Analysts and The Bond Market Association, among others .

Private life

Lebenthal was married to Jacqueline Beymer Lebenthal (1930–2010) until her death. The daughters Claudia and Alexandra and the son Jim emerged from the marriage. Lebenthal died on November 14, 2014 in a Manhattan hospital from complications from a heart attack the day before at the age of 86.
