Tabwakea (: earlier Tabakea ; Gilbertese for " turtle ") in addition to London , the main settlement on the atoll Kiritimati (Christmas Island) in the island nation of Kiribati in the Central Pacific . In 2015 there were 3001 inhabitants, making it the largest on Kiritimati and the third largest in Kiribati (2011: 2311).

Tabwakea is on the northern headland of the atoll, only about 2 km north of London, which is on the southern tip of this headland. The only road worth mentioning connects the places with Banana in the east, where the airfield is also located. There is a boat launch and about 1 km north of the settlement is Cape Nortwest Point . Tabwakea is 224 km north of the equator . The main town of Napia on the island of Tabuaeran (Fanning Island) is 298 km (north-west direction), the island of Teraina (Washington Island) 446 km (also north-west direction) and the capital of Kiribati, South Tarawa on the Tarawa Atoll , 3254 km. Tabwakea has notable palm forests that thrive on the northern tip of the island and halfway to Banana in the east, there is a spring.
