Tachysphex panzeri is a grave wasp from the family of Crabronidae .
features
The animals reach a body length of 9 to 14 millimeters (females) or 6.5 to 10 millimeters (males) and have a black body. Your compound eyes are colored yellow. The labrum protrudes in a semicircle. The base of the abdomen is often colored red. The males, unlike the females, have golden facial hair.
Occurrence
The species occurs in North Africa, Europe, east to west Asia. It colonizes open, sandy habitats with favorable temperatures. The animals fly in one generation from July to August. The species is very rare in Central Europe.
Way of life
The females of Tachytes panzeri build their nests only a few centimeters deep in loose sand. The brood is supplied with larvae of field locusts . Some of these are transported to the nest on the fly.
