Panzeri Tachytes is a grave wasp from the family of Crabronidae .

features

The animals reach a body length of 12 to 15 millimeters (females) or 10 to 13 millimeters (males). The first two abdominal segments are colored red. The rails ( tibia ) are black. The species can be confused with some Tachyspex species as well as with Tachytes obsoletus .

Occurrence

The species occurs in Morocco and Europe, east to Kazakhstan. In the north, the distribution limit runs through Germany. It colonizes large, temperature-favored sand habitats. The animals fly from mid-May to mid-September. The species is very rare in Central Europe.

Way of life

The females of Tachytes panzeri make their nests in loose sand. The brood is supplied with larvae of field locusts , especially of the genus Oedipoda .
