Tadeáš Kraus (born October 22, 1932 in Třinec ; † October 31, 2018 ) was a Czech football player and coach of Polish descent.

Club career

Kraus began playing football with Siła Trzyniec , and was already used in the first team at the age of 15. From 1951 to 1953 he interrupted his career to study at a Prague sports college . Then the left winger played for the army clubs Křídla vlasti Olomouc and ÚDA Prague .

For the 1956 season Kraus moved to Sparta Prague , for which he played for ten years. In the 1963/64 season he was with the team of Czechoslovak Cup winners, the following year Czechoslovak champions. For Sparta, Kraus, who was later used in midfield, completed a total of 458 games in which he scored 201 goals.

From 1966 to 1969 Kraus played for the then second division LIAZ Jablonec , then he went to Melbourne as a player- coach for two years , where he looked after the local team Slavia .

National team

In the Czechoslovak national team Kraus was used a total of 23 times. He made his debut on September 23, 1953 in the World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria , which Czechoslovakia won 2-1. He was in the 1954 World Cup squad , and he also took part in the 1958 World Cup. Kraus played his last game for Czechoslovakia on April 5, 1959, and his team lost 2-0 to Ireland in the European Championship qualifiers .

Coaching career

After returning to Czechoslovakia , he took over Sparta Prague in the 1971/72 season and won the national cup competition with the team. In 1974 Kraus moved to LIAZ Jablonec, in 1976 he became the coach of the Cypriot team Aris Limassol , which he supervised until 1980 and again from 1983 to 1985.
