Tadeusz Chmielewski (pianist)

Tadeusz Chmielewski (born November 22, 1941 in Vilnius ; † October 17, 2012 ) was a Polish pianist and music teacher.

Chmielewski was a student of Maria Wiłkomirska at the Łódź Music Academy and continued his education as a scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Culture and Art at the Moscow Conservatory with Jakow Zak . He has performed as a piano soloist and as a chamber music partner of Wanda Wiłkomirska , Vadim Brodski , Barbara Górzyńska , Elisa Kawaguti , Kaja Danczowska , Keiko Urushihara , his son Przemysław Chmielewski and others around the world and won numerous prizes at piano competitions and festivals. At the Henryk Wieniawski violin competitions in 1977, 1981 and 1986 he was awarded the jury's prize for best piano accompanist. He was also awarded first, second and third class prizes from the Polish Minister for Culture and Art and the silver medal from the Artur Rubinstein Society in Tel Aviv.

For twenty-five years he directed the piano school of the Łódź Music Academy, besides giving master classes and annual summer courses in Bialystok in Poland and abroad. From 1991 to 2001 he was a member of the board of the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw, and in 2005 he was elected to the program committee of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. He himself initiated two piano competitions named after Fryderyk Chopin and Miłosz Magin , which are held every three and two years at the Łódź Music Academy.
