Tadeusz Józef Zawistowski (born January 16, 1930 in Sztabin , † June 1, 2015 in Łomża ) was a Polish clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Łomża .

Life

Tadeusz Zawistowski entered the seminary in Łomża in 1950 and studied philosophy and theology. On July 3, 1955, he received by the bishop of Lomza , Czesław Falkowski , the ordination . From 1956 to 1961 he studied classical philology at the Catholic University of Lublin . From 1962 to 1990 he taught Latin and Greek at the Major Seminary in Łomża. He was Prefect (1969–1970) and Regens of the Seminary in Łomża (1970–1973).

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 12, 1973 auxiliary bishop in Łomża and titular bishop of Hospita . Paul VI personally donated to him the episcopal ordination in St. Peter's Basilica on June 29, 1973 ; Co- consecrators were Agostino Casaroli , Secretary of the Council for Public Affairs of the Church, and Bernardin Gantin , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . His episcopal motto was "Laus Deo - Pax hominibus" (Glory to God - Peace to people). In 1973 he also became vicar general of the diocese. In 1982/83 he was apostolic administrator of the diocese. In 1973 he was appointed prelate-archdeacon of the cathedral chapter of Łomża. In the Polish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Standing Committee and the bodies for the clergy, communication and rural pastoral care.

On February 11, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
