Tafese Seboka Jimma (born September 29, 1993 ) is an Ethiopian athlete who starts over 3000 meters obstacle .

Athletic career

Tafese Seboka first appeared in 2012 at the age of 18 at the African Championships in Porto-Novo at an international championship. He faced an obstacle over 3000 m and finished fifth in 8: 26.33 minutes. The next year he became Ethiopian champion in the obstacle course. It was his only bigger race in 2013 and in 2014 he didn't come close to his best time in 2012. After he finished second in the national championships in June, he moved back to the finals at the African Championships in Marrakech. In it he ran a time of 8: 50.31 minutes and reached the finish line in seventh place. In the spring of 2015 he took part in an international competition in the 3,000 meter run in France for the first time and was able to win in Halluin in 8: 03.97 minutes. After increasing his best time in the obstacle course to 8: 25.56 min in June, he entered the World Championships in Beijing in August . In the run-up he lagged well behind his time from June and was eliminated in sixth of his run. Overall, he finished 24th.

In 2016, Seboka took part in obstacle course competitions on the European continent throughout the spring. In June he stayed below 8:20 min for the first time in a competition in Huelva, Spain. As part of the Ethiopian running team, he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August . He was seeded in the third run, but was disqualified after crossing an inside marker. In spring 2017, he first took part in a number of indoor meetings in Europe over 3000 meters. In May he became the Ethiopian champion in the obstacle course for the third time. A month later he finished second in 8: 13.22 minutes at a meeting in Hengelo. The time meant a personal best that still exists today (as of 05/2020). In August he finally took part in the highlight of the season, the World Championships in London. He moved into the final, in which he finished eighth with 8: 23.02 minutes. In the following years he could not qualify for international championships.
