Open pottery day

The open pottery day takes place once a year on the 2nd weekend in March. Full-time ceramists who represent all areas of ceramics are involved. The open pottery day is organized on a voluntary basis and has a common logo and a common website.

The workshops involved prepare different offers. Some potters burn an oven on Saturday and open it to visitors on Sunday. Films on the subject of pottery are shown, and there is often a special offer for children. The offer of the individual workshops is published on the website beforehand.

The idea for a common day of action came from several sides and was repeatedly discussed in the professional associations. In 2006 around 100 potteries from Saxony , Thuringia and North Rhine-Westphalia decided to take part in a joint appointment. In 2007 the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt , Baden-Württemberg , Schleswig-Holstein and Rhineland-Palatinate were added. Lower Saxony , Brandenburg , Hesse and Mecklenburg have been involved since 2008 . Since then, Mecklenburg has had the largest number of participants in any federal state.
