The Koschen opencast mine is a former open-cast lignite mine and was largely located in the area of what is now the Free State of Saxony, northwest of Hoyerswerda and partly in Brandenburg .
history
The Koschen open-cast lignite mine was opened in 1952 southeast of the city of Senftenberg . The first coal could be mined from 1955. In 1972 the opencast mine was shut down and flooded to Lake Geierswalder .
