Kleinkoschen , Kóšynka in Lower Sorbian , is part of the municipality of Großkoschen in the Brandenburg district town of Senftenberg in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district .

The village of Kleinkoschen is located in Niederlausitz . It is located on the east bank of the Senftenberger See , on the west bank of the Geierswalder See and on the Koschen Canal (including the ship tunnel and lock) and on the Black Elster . At Kleinkoschen the Sornoer Elster flows into the Black Elster.

Kleinkoschen is largely surrounded by Senftenberg districts, to the south lies Großkoschen, west the Senftenberger See, northwest Senftenberg, in the north lie Sedlitz and the Sedlitzer See . In the east and southeast, Kleinkoschen borders the Saxon community of Elsterheide . To the east is the Geierswalder See and to the southeast is the town of Geierswalde .

Interpretation and development of the place name

The name Koschen is derived from the Slavic Kosua and means wicker basket or fish trap . This indicates that both basket weaving and the abundance of fish in the area were an important source of income for the inhabitants.

The name developed from Cleine Koschen (1474) via Cleyn Koschen (1509) to the name we know today.

The village of Kleinkoschen was first mentioned in a document in 1474. Like many other places in the area, Kleinkoshen was Sorbian until the beginning of the 20th century . The oldest seal of Kleinkoshe from 1738 shows two fish. The village was completely destroyed by fires in 1858 and 1860. As the number of industrial workers increased, the Sorbian language was gradually displaced. The open pit Koschen were large parts of the town to the victim. The remaining open pit hole was filled from 1973 by groundwater rising and was actively flooded from 2004 to 2013. The Geierswalder See emerged from this opencast mine. Since this lake lies on the border of the federal states of Saxony and Brandenburg, it was named Koschener See from the Brandenburg side . In the meantime, however, the name Geierswalder See has been recognized.

On January 1, 1974, Kleinkoschen was incorporated into Großkoschen . In the 1990s, a new residential area was developed in Kleinkoshen, which led to an increase in the number of inhabitants in the district. On December 31, 2001, Großkoschen was incorporated into Senftenberg.

Since September 9, 2016, Kleinkoschen has been part of the Senftenberg urban area that has been awarded the status of a state-recognized resort .

At the end of February 2008, the old fire station in Kleinkoshen was demolished. The new construction of the fire station with vehicle hall and assembly room was completed at the end of 2008. The Kleinkoschen volunteer fire brigade has 25 members, 16 of whom are active firefighters (as of May 2008) .

The district has a special landing site.
