The Tagish Lake is a lake in the Province of British Columbia and in the territory of Yukon in Canada .
Tagish means something like " fish trap " in the old Tagish dialect of Gwich'in , an Athabaskan language.
It stretches across the border between Yukon and British Columbia. The lake is over 100 kilometers long, around two kilometers wide and has several side arms. In one of these tributaries, the Graham Inlet , the Atlin River flows into the lake. The Natasaheeni River drains Bennett Lake and flows into the Windy Arm . Tutshi Lake to the west is drained via the Tutshi River to Taku Arm , which forms the main part of Tagish Lake. At the northern end of Tagish Lake south of Tagish , the Tagish River leaves the lake and drains to nearby Marsh Lake .
On January 18, 2000 , a meteorite struck the Taku arm , see Tagish Lake (meteorite) .
