The Tagore-Gymnasium (until 2013: Tagore-Schule ) is a linguistic and artistic high school in the Berlin district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf . The namesake is the Bengali poet, philosopher and painter Rabindranath Tagore . In 2006 the grammar school was given the name Tagore School. The school was created in the course of the Marzahn school closings from the amalgamation of the following schools: Oberschule an der Weide, Einstein High School, Karl Schiller High School, Walter Felsenstein High School and Mahatma Gandhi High School.

The buildings

The two school buildings and one of the two sports halls were modernized from 2003 to 2009. The formerly concreted school yard was redesigned in the years 2009-2011 with water features, an amphitheater and an Indian- style garden with benches decorated with mosaics . The buildings are each around 120 meters long.

Due to the large number of students, the Kiezsporthalle (formerly: the gym of the Döblin School) has also been used since the 2010/2011 school year.

Extra-curricular

Sponsorships with India

Since the Tagore School was founded, classes have been sponsoring an Indian child from Chaibasa . In 2011/2012 several classes have a sponsored child. The sponsored children receive financial support and there are pen pals.

Partner schools

In 2002, Chaibasa Lutheran High School and Mahatma Gandhi School partnered. Teachers and students visited each other several times. Since the Mahatma Gandhi School was closed in the summer of 2007, the Tagore High School took over this school partnership and has continued it since then.

Working groups

At the Tagore-Gymnasium there are currently 20 study groups. Among other things, there is a Homepage-AG, a Multimedia-AG, which also produces the school film, and the Robo-AG, which takes part in the Robocup tournaments.

Painting work at the Karl-Friedrich-Friesen elementary school

The artistic direction of the school was also reflected in the voluntary work. For example, twelve pupils designed wall areas in the foyer of the Karl-Friedrich-Friesen elementary school. There is a cooperation agreement between the Karl-Friedrich-Friesen School and the Tagore-Gymnasium.

Support association

The Tagore-Gymnasium is supported by a development association, which enables activities and investments despite the difficult financial situation in the state of Berlin.
