history

St. Vitus Church Langendorf

Langendorf was first mentioned in a document in 772 as "Wintgraben" on the occasion of a donation of properties in Langendorf to the Fulda monastery.

Langendorf received the first church in 1025.

In 1635, Swedish troops burned the whole village during the Thirty Years War . The church was also destroyed.

From 1825 to 1830 the St. Vitus Church was built in its present form. In 1901, the steeple was raised to match the significantly enlarged church building.

In 1951, a large part of the Langendorf district threatened to be incorporated into the military training area. This was prevented by protests. The A 7 motorway was built in the 1960s .

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Langendorf was incorporated into Elfershausen as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
