history

There is evidence of a church in the village for the year 1025, which was replaced by a new Gothic church in the 14th century . The basement of the steeple of today's St. Vitus Church was created from the choir of this Gothic church. The St. Vitus Church was built in its current form between 1825 and 1830. The church was consecrated on July 17, 1830.

The classicistic high altar was built in Donnersdorf . The saints Vitus, Joachim, Anna and Kilian are grouped on a high base around the central dome tabernacle with two angels. Six Corinthian columns support an entablature over which a crown (canopy) rises on four volutes.

The left side altar was formerly in the Greiffenklau Chapel built by the Würzburg bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau zu Vollraths in Würzburg and shows the apostles Johannes and Philippus , the namesake of the bishop, as side figures , as well as the Mother of God in the altar leaf .

The right side altar in Baroque style comes from the Augustinian Church in Würzburg, which was profaned in 1824 and shows Saint Sebastian and his nurse Irene as well as Saint Barbara and Saint Apollonia as side figures . The corresponding high altar is in the church of Ebenhausen.

The pulpit was made in 1825. It was created like the confessional in Karlstadt. Reliefs of the four evangelists and busts from three continents can be seen on it.

The ceiling painting depicts the Assumption of Mary. The corner medallions again show the four evangelists, the central medallions St. Vitus (above the pulpit) and St. Kilian (opposite).

Nothing is known about the origin of the Way of the Cross in the church. The pictures of the side altars, created in Würzburg in 1859, were made by Andreas Leimgrub.

Michael Arnold's offer to the parish of Langendorf on November 9, 1850, a baptismal font in “Roman-Greek style” in “finest sandstone” (costs: 80 or 100 guilders depending on the design ) was accepted by the royal district court in Hammelburg on February 9, 1851 ; the district court recommended the more expensive variant of Arnold at 100 guilders. The late Classicist font shows the baptism of Jesus on the Jordan in relief . As the pastor from Langendorf, Sahlender, noted in the church bill, the font from the Wermerichshausen quarry was erected on August 9, 1851. The unlabeled draft of a similar baptismal font with a somewhat stronger central column in the Bad Kissingen city archive suggests that Arnold later offered more baptismal fonts.

In 1901 the church tower was enlarged to a height of 48 meters. The Vitus bell, which still hangs in the tower today, was cast on this occasion. In 1925 three new bells were procured. In 1936 the current organ of the church was installed by the company Weise in Plattling . In 1942 the new bells were removed. In 1949 a white bronze bell was placed in the tower, which was exchanged for another in 1952. In the 1990s, the interior and exterior of the church building and the tower were renovated. The tower received a steel corset and a new belfry during a general renovation.

Since 1952 the ringing has consisted of four bells. This year, the Czudnochowsky company in Erding cast three euphon bells and thus added the ringing to a transposed motif for the song "Rejoice, you heavenly queen". For the Vitus bell, Robert Kümmert takes the opinion that deviates from the table that it sounds in tone b´. The chimes in the table are taken from the local chronicle.
