Chaibasa is a city in the Pashchimi Singhbhum district in the Indian state of Jharkhand .

In the 2011 census, the population was 69,565. At the time of the 2001 census, Chaibasa still had a population of 63,615 people. Men made up 53% of the population, women 47%. The literacy rate was 74% and thus above the national average of 59.5%. The literacy rate of men was 79%, that of women 68%. 12% of the population were younger than 6 years.

education

There are a number of schools up to 10th and 12th grade in Chaibasa. The offers of higher education, however, are limited. There are branches of the University of Ranchi and the new Kolhan University has also existed for some time.

entertainment

Chaibasa has two cinemas, Yashoda and JMP. There is a large selection of different eateries around the cinemas. In addition, many new restaurants have sprung up in the city in recent years, many of them in the Sadar Baazar area. The lively weekly market can also be considered entertaining.

In the heart of the city there is a small lake with two small islands, which are also worth a visit thanks to their recent refurbishment.

Chaibasa is best connected to Jamshedpur , which is around 60 km away. Two regular trains and a Shatabdi Express run on the line. Shatabdi trains also connect Chaibasa with Kolkata . The condition of the road network in Jharkhand is generally of poor quality, also in the area around Chaibasa. The city does not have an airport, but there are some helipads .

Personalities

Samir Roychoudhury , representative of the literary and cultural Hungryalism movement, lived in Chaibasa for several decades since the 1950s.
