Taipuva Luotisuora is a Finnish progressive and space rock band from Rauma that was formed in 2002.

history

The band was founded in 2002 and consists of the guitarist Ville Eriksson, Esko Grundström (keyboard, string instruments, kantele, wind instruments, melodica, accordion), the bassist Juha Eriksson, the drummer Tatu Laurila and the percussionist and drummer Taneli Korpinen. The band also works with various guest musicians on the releases. A self-titled EP was released the following year . This was followed by a series of albums with Planetaariset ilmanpainevyöhykkeet (2004), I (2005), II (2006), IV (2009) and 8 (2013).

style

Scott Heller from aural-innovations.com wrote in his review of II that the band continued to develop in their style. Many songs now have vocals in English with a Finnish accent, and additional members add cello and flute tones. While the previous releases were still progressive space rock, the group is now more melodic and poppy . Thoralf Koß from musikreviews.de stated that the band is moving towards space rock on 8 . On the predecessor, the band was more progressive and down to earth and there were comparisons to King Crimson and Gong . On this album the band sounds like the also Finnish group Hidria Spacefolk . The sound is mostly related to the 1970s, that is, space, progressive, jazz and psychedelic rock have been processed, with similarities to Deep Purple , Magma , Beardfish , Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Mahavishnu Orchestra .
