Tajima Nabi

Tajima Nabi ( Japanese 田島 ナ ビ , born August 4, 1900 in Wan (now Kikai ), Kagoshima ; † April 21, 2018 ) is the owner of the Japanese age record. From September 15, 2017, she was considered the oldest living person in the world for 218 days , the last person born in the 19th century and, since February 10, 2018, the oldest person to have lived in the 21st century. However, the title has not been officially awarded by the Guinness Book of Records .

Life

Tajima was born on August 4, 1900 in the village of Wan in the western part of the island of Kikaijima ( Amami Islands ). Her mother tongue was Kikai , a dialect of the Amami language from the Ryūkyū language family . Tajima Nabi had over 140 offspring, descended from her seven sons and two daughters. These include 28 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren and some great-great-great-grandchildren (as of September 2015). She lived in Kikai on the island of her birth.

Since August 13, 2014 Tajima Nabi has been one of the 100 oldest people of all time . As of June 17, 2015, she was one of the five oldest living people; she became the oldest living Asian woman on September 27, 2015. Since the Japanese Ikai Tane passed the age of January 26, 2017, Tajima has been one of the ten oldest people of all time. In addition, she became the second oldest person from Asia after Ōkawa Misao ; Since August 31, 2017, Tajima Nabi is considered the oldest Asian person in history. After the death of Violet Brown on September 15, 2017, Tajima Nabi became the oldest living person in the world. Currently (April 2018) she is the third oldest person who has ever lived, after Jeanne Calment and Sarah Knauss .

On April 21, 2018, Tajima Nabi died in a hospital on Kikai Island at the age of 117 . Miyako Chiyo , who was 116 years old at the time, was succeeded as the oldest living person .
