Takayasu Akira ( Japanese 高 安 晃 ; born February 28, 1990 in Ibaraki Prefecture ) is a sumo wrestler in the Japanese Makuuchi division.

Sumo career

The son of a Japanese father and a Filipino mother, Takayasu began his career in March 2005 in the Naruto-beya stable (which was renamed Tagonoura-beya in 2013). Two years later he made his debut in the fourth highest division Sandanme and in May 2008 he had arrived in Makushita . As before, he usually only achieved tight kachi-koshi there and never intervened in the race to win the tournament. That changed in September 2010 when he showed a 7-0 record and thus brought in his first and so far only tournament victory. Among other things, he was already defeating the later San'yaku - Rikishi Ikioi and Aoiyama . The yusho also meant promotion to the second division. In his Jūryō debut, Takayasu convinced with a record of 11-4 and reached the yusho playoff against Toyohibiki, which he lost. After two more positively designed Jūryō tournaments, he was allowed to compete in the Makuuchi division for the first time in July 2011 , in which he established himself very quickly. At his first tournament in Makuuchi (9-6) he had 7 wins and only one loss after 8 days and then secured himself on the 12th day with a win over Toyohibiki (to which he had lost twice in November 2010) Kachi-koshi. In September 2012 Takayasu remained unbeaten for the first 8 days, but then only finished the tournament with a 10-5 record. Shortly afterwards he achieved a 12-3 as Maegashira 7 at the Hatsu Basho 2013 and thus his best result so far in the Makuuchi Division. He was tournament runner-up (Jun-Yusho) behind Yokozuna Harumafuji and received his first Kantō-shō . In the following tournament he defeated Harumafuji and got his first Kinboshi . In July 2013 he beat the yokozuna a second time and also won against the Ōzeki Kakuryū and Kotoōshū . For this performance and his overall record of 9-6 he was rewarded with the Shukun-shō and a promotion to Komusubi . However, his San'yaku debut (5-10) was less successful. At the Nagoya Basho 2014, Takayasu was in the race for the tournament victory for a long time. He had only received two defeats after 13 days, but lost his last two fights against Kotoshōgiku and Takekaze. In the end he even gambled away the Jun-Yusho, but was awarded the Kanto-sho again. In November 2014 Takayasu defeated two yokozuna ( Hakuhō and Harumafuji) as maegashira 3 and received two kinboshi within four days . He was also the only conqueror of the eventual tournament winner Hakuhō. He was then honored for the second time with the Shukun-shō, the fourth Sanshō in his career. His 10-5 record enabled him to return to the Komusubi rank, which he could not hold again. In July 2015 he joined as a maegashira 2 and defeated four San'yaku - rikishi (the ozeki Goeido and Kotoshōgiku and sekiwake Ichinojō and komusubi Takarafuji ). In the end it was only enough for a 6-9 balance.
