Aoiyama Kōsuke ( Japanese 碧山 亘 右 ; born June 19, 1986 in Elchowo as Daniel Iwanow ) is a Bulgarian sumo wrestler in the Japanese Makuuchi division.

Sumo career

In May 2009 Ivanov began his professional sumo career in the stable Tagonoura-beya under the name Aoiyama (blue mountain). He won his first tournament directly with a perfect 7-0 record. At the following basho, he repeated this success. This time he won the playoff against Kazafuzan. Aoiyama made his debut in his third professional tournament in the fourth-highest division Sandanme . There he scored 6-1, which brought him promotion to the Makushita division. On his debut in Makushita in March 2010, Aoiyama immediately took the overall victory (7-0). In his last fight he defeated the (later maegashira ) Homarefuji, who was also undefeated until then . He had already collected three titles in his first four tournaments. At the following tournament, however, he received make-koshi (2-5) for the first time in his career . A year later he made a 5-2 record as Makushita 1 East, the promotion to the Jūryō division perfect. Despite a tight make-koshi on his Jūryō debut (7-8) and a herniated disc , he quickly made it through to the Makuuchi division. At his first tournament in Makuuchi, Aoiyama impressed with an 11-4. For this he was awarded the Kantō-shō . He lost the direct duel for the Jun yusho against the maegashira Wakakoyu on the last day. In February 2012 he moved to the Kasugano-beya stable. Shortly afterwards he (as maegashira 6 ) achieved a record of 11-4 for the second time. Since then, he has always held at least a single-digit maegashira rank. During the Nagoya Basho in 2012, Aoiyama , who has now been placed on Maegashira 2, met the Ōzeki and yokozuna Hakuhō for the first time and was only able to defeat Ōzeki Kotoshōgiku . Although he lost six times in the first seven days, he still managed a kachi-koshi and with it the first promotion to komusubi . However, his debut in the San'yaku ranks was not very successful, on the ninth day of the tournament he already received Make-koshi. At the Aki Basho 2013, Aoiyama defeated yokozuna Harumafuji on day 4 and got the first and so far only kinboshi of his career. In May 2014, Aoiyama beat both Kisenosato and Kotoshōgiku, and for the first time two Ōzeki within a tournament. In the end, he posted an 8-7 and then celebrated his comeback in July with the rank of Komusubi , which he finished with a negative balance (6-9). After a 10-5 as Maegashira 3 , Aoiyama started as a Sekiwake for the first time in November 2014 and was initially able to defend this rank with an 8-7. In the following basho he disappointed with a 5-10 balance and had to leave the San'yaku ranks again. In his two tournaments as a Sekiwake , he won two consecutive wins against Yokozuna Harumafuji. In July 2015 he started as Maegashira 2 and reached an 8-7. He defeated Ōzeki Kisenosato, Sekiwake Ichinojō and Komusubi Myōgiryū, among others .
