Pöhl valley bridge

The viaduct Pohl spans at Altensalz, a district of New salt , the valley of the engine , which at this point since 1964 to Pohl dam is dammed up and transferred to the Bundesautobahn 72 . It stands between the Treuen and Plauen -Ost junctions and was created during the construction of the Vogtland motorway. The structure is located about five kilometers south of the famous Elstertalbrücke railway overpass and joins a number of bridges in the Vogtland that span tributaries of the White Elster or the White Elster itself.

The viaduct was built from 1937 to 1939 as an arch structure made of natural stone masonry. The maximum 25 meter high bridge has six arches with clear widths of 37 meters each. From 1992 to 1994 the building was renovated and rebuilt. The appearance of the bridge should be changed as little as possible. A prestressed concrete bridge was built into the old structure between the granite side walls.

Many of the Vogtlandautobahn motorway bridges in this region are designed as natural stone arch bridges, for example the Göltzschtalbrücke Weißensand, the Friesenbachtalbrücke and the Elstertalbrücke Pirk .
