Tallai is a suburb of the Gold Coast city in Queensland , Australia . It is about 10 kilometers from the city and not on the coast, but in the hinterland. Tallai is closely linked to the suburb of Worongary . Both suburbs adjoin Mudgeeraba immediately to the north and west and are 10 kilometers west of Mermaid Beach . Worongary is the larger suburb.
It is believed that the name of the suburb goes back to a designation used by the regional Aborigines . It denotes a vine or the flight of a pigeon.
history
Trains on the South Coast Railway stopped in Worongari as early as 1903. The Europeans first settled in the north near Nerang and in the south from Tallai. The first residential buildings were built in Worongari in 1979 and a primary school was opened in 1993. In 2004 the Worongary Village Shopping Center was created .
Tallai, which is closer to Mudgeeraba, has a golf course on the common border.

At the 2011 census, Tallai had 4,150 inhabitants. 52.4% of them are female and 47.6% are male. The average age of Tallai residents is 45 years, seven years longer than the Australian average. 63.0% of Tallai's residents were born in Australia. The large minorities are English with 7.0%, New Zealanders with 6.3%, South Africans 1.9%, Scots with 1.1% and Germans with 0.7% of the population. 82.1% of the population speak English. Then come Japanese, Mandarin, German, Russian and Afrikaans.
