Talocan is the first suspended top spin in Europe and is located in Phantasialand Brühl near Cologne. The attraction of the manufacturer Huss Rides has taken the place of the Condor, which was demolished for this purpose, in the Mexico themed area since 2007. The theming follows a fictional story about the uncovering of an Aztec temple during the expansion of the wine cellar of a Mexican cooperative. The name is derived from Aztec mythology, in which the paradise of the weather god Tlaloc was called Tlalocan .
Theming
With elaborate theming in the form of an Aztec temple, which caused the majority of the investment costs, and special effects of fire, water and fog, the Phantasialand would like to give the impression of a mighty god who lets visitors feel his wrath. Despite a natural gas supply, the fire sheaves are created through the combustion of liquefied gas, since the necessary pressure of two to two and a half bar could not have been achieved otherwise. The focus of the theming is a broad sculpture depicting the god Tlaloc with an evil expression on his face. In his hand he is holding an open vessel with a fire in it, which is constantly burning in a small form, but can suddenly expand into a jet flame if this is provided for by the driving program. Other places of origin of the fire effects are at two openings on the head. The stone structure, over whose face water constantly runs from a hollow on the head, sits enthroned in front of the row of water fountains on a plinth in the middle of a water-covered area. Since Phantasialand wants to entertain even less courageous visitors with the sight of this spectacle, the facility was deliberately designed so that the action can be easily observed from the transition to the Deep in Africa theme area .
Trip description
The waiting people are led into the interior of the wine cellar, which is equipped with old wine barrels according to the theme of the story. Here they are divided by park employees into one group each for the front and rear row of seats. Finally, visitors can enter the temple and be secured in their seats by staff. At the beginning of the journey, the floor on which all loose objects were previously placed is lowered. Meanwhile, the attraction is shrouded in fog and a voice can be heard speaking words in an Aztec language. Further special effects are water fountains and bursts of fire that are coordinated with the driving program. When the journey is complete, the floor is raised again and visitors exit the temple on the opposite side of the entrance.
Driving programs
Talocan has a total of three driving programs that are used depending on the number of visitors.
The first drive program is the longest and runs to the music The Blitz 1940 by Harry Gregson-Williams from the soundtrack to the film The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia . Since the 2011 season there has been another piece of music for this driving program that is played alternately. It is a cut version of Armageddon and Countdown To Oblivion , each as a No Choir version by Yoav Goren.
The second driving program is shorter than the first and is accompanied by Hans Zimmer's budget meeting from the film King Arthur . This driving program is intended for full visitor days.
The third driving program is used on particularly clear days. It is slightly shorter than the second driving program, but includes more rollover. The music for this driving program is from the composers Daniel Backes and Peter Moslener from the song Powerpiece .
Between the trips, the piece Tapir Hunt by James Horner from the soundtrack of the film Apocalypto runs .
For the 2015 summer season, Talocan's driving programs were equipped with soundtracks from IMAscore.
Awards
The ride was awarded the “FKF-Award 2007” novelty prize from the Freundeskreis Kirmes und Freizeitparks e. V. excellent. In the reason for the price, the complex theming is particularly emphasized.
