Talschilling

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Talschilling (after the old Austrian currency unit Schilling before the introduction of the euro ) describes the compensation that illwerke vkw AG pays to the Paznaun in order to divert water from the Paznaun brooks into the Montafon for the use of hydropower . The current payment counts as compensation for the immeasurable damage.

The Paznaun community association, to which the mayors of the communities See , Kappl , Ischgl and Galtür belong , determines how these payments are used. This is obliged to submit an investment program lasting at least five years for the use of the money.

Drainage of Tyrolean streams by illwerke vkw AG

the Kops reservoir

Around 1930 the Vorarlberger Illwerke started the construction of the Vermunt reservoir , which is located on Vorarlberg soil, but the right of use is incumbent on Tyrol , more precisely Galtür . Galtür had already acquired grazing rights decades before after a protracted dispute from the Engadine municipality of Ardez . The Kops and Silvretta reservoirs followed later . The water that is stored in these systems comes partly from overflows from Tyrolean - more precisely Paznauner - brooks. The Talschilling now consists of the one-time compensation, which was paid to replace the various properties, and annual payments by illwerke vkw to the Paznaun.

The people in the inner Paznaun also benefited significantly from these transitions. In the Galtür village chronicle you can read how many devastating floods there were in the past. This danger has largely been averted by the water transfers. It is seen as a disadvantage that the mountain world around Galtür has had to accept some changes. The reservoirs and also the Silvrettastraße have also attracted many guests to Galtür and are therefore of great importance for tourism. This income was very important for the development of the village. Although the compensation that was paid directly by illwerke vkw AG (and is still being) is rather small, the construction of the electricity works was nevertheless a financial success for the Paznaun.
