The Águas Claras dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Águas Claras ) is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal in the Beja district . It dams the Barranco do Morgado . The small town of Aljustrel is located about 500 m east of the dam. The Rejeitados dam is about 400 m below the Águas Claras dam.
The project to build the dam began in 1990. The dam was owned by Pirites Alentejanas, SA (PA). On February 5, 2009, PA was transferred from Lundin Mining to MTO SGPS, SA. sold.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam with a height of 28 m above the foundation level (26 m above the river bed). The top of the dam is at a height of 163 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 340 m and its width 7 m. The volume of the dam is 192,000 m³.
The dam has a flood relief system that can discharge a maximum of 7.5 m³ / s. The design flood is 15.02 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 years.
Reservoir
With a normal storage target of 161.25 m (maximum 162 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.32 km² and holds 2.1 million m³ of water. The minimum congestion destination is 140 m.
