The Lundin Mining Corporation is a Swedish - Canadian mining company with headquarters in Toronto .
history
Lundin Mining was founded on September 9, 1994 by Swedish entrepreneur Adolf H. Lundin as South Atlantic Diamonds Corp. The company got its current name when it went on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2004. In 2006, Lundin Mining and EuroZinc Mining Corporation merged. In January 2007 the company carried out a 1: 3 stock split . With the takeover of the Canadian Tenke Mining in April 2007, Lundin Mining got a 24.75 percent share in the Tenke Fungurume deposit in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . In September 2007 the shares were taken from the American Stock Exchange and listed on the New York Stock Exchange , and the shares were also traded on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. At the beginning of 2013, the companies involved in the Tenke Fungurume deposit together bought a further processing plant for cobalt in Kokkola, Finland, from the US OM Group , so the cobalt can still be refined in the company before it is sold.

Galmoy Mine
The Galmoy Mine is located in County Kilkenny , Ireland , mining ended in 2012 and the last ore is to be processed in 2013. In the mine, the zinc and lead are surrounded by carbonate ; the rock, which is sometimes very rich in ore, was mainly mined at a depth of 100 to 160 meters.

Zinc green
The Zinkgruvan is 200 kilometers southwest of the Swedish capital Stockholm , near the north bank of the Vättern . The deposit has been known since the 16th century, and large-scale mining began in 1857 by the Belgian company Vieille Montagne . In the mid-1970s, the mine was greatly expanded, and in 2004 Lundin Mining bought it from the then owner, the Rio Tinto Group . The Zinkgruvan is located in the Proterozoic Bergslagen - green stone belt , the main minerals occurring are sphalerite and galena . In addition to zinc, lead and copper, the deposit also contains silver , which is not extracted from the rock by Lundin Mining, but by Silver Wheaton . The mine is expected to be in operation until at least 2025.

Neves-Corvo copper mine
The Neves-Corvo copper mine is located in the Portuguese region of Alentejo . The deposit was discovered in 1977 and the Somincor company was set up to explore. In addition to copper, high levels of tin were found , but mining was later stopped. In 2006 Lundin Mining bought the EuroZinc Mining Corporation, which owned the mine. Neves-Corvo is located in the pyrite belt of the south Iberian peninsula and is a volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit , the existing silver is not mined.

Aguablanca open pit mine
The Aguablanca open-cast copper and nickel mine is located in the Spanish community of Extremadura , around 100 kilometers north of Seville . The area has been explored for copper and nickel since the mid-1980s, with the Aguablanca deposit discovered in 1993. Construction of the infrastructure began in November 2003 and commercial production began in January 2005. Lundin Mining bought the mine in 2007. Beneath the ore deposit lies gabbroides rock that is mafic and ultramafic. In December 2010, a landslide occurred in the opencast mine, which is why production stopped in 2011 and resumed in the third quarter of 2012.

Tenke Fungurume
Tenke Fungurume is located in the Congolese province of Katanga , in the so-called Copperbelt . The main owner of the open pit mine, in which copper and cobalt are mined, and operator is the company Phelps Dodge , which built the infrastructure in the mid-2000s. In 2007 Lundin Mining took over 24.64 percent of Tenke Fungurume through the purchase of Tenke Mining, in March 2012 this share was reduced to 24 percent. Frequently occurring minerals are malachite , chrysocolla , bornite and heterogenite , the copper and cobalt can be found in chalcosine , digenite , bornite and carrollite . The capacities of the processing plants are being increased, and the storage facility is to have a significantly higher production volume in the future.

In 2014, Lundin Mining opened a new nickel-copper mine in Michigan .
criticism
The operators of Tenke Fungurume are accused that the local population has gotten worse and worse since the opening of the opencast mine. They previously operated agriculture and mined ore in small mines, entire villages were relocated for open-cast mining and their population now suffers from extreme poverty. Promised schools and hospitals were not built, and nothing had changed in 2012 since a report in 2008.
