The Bouçoais-Sonim dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Bouçoais-Sonim ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Vila Real district . It dams the Rabaçal , the right (western) source river of the Tua, to a reservoir. The Rabaçal forms the border between the districts of Bragança and Vila Real at this point . The eponymous community Sonim is located about two kilometers southwest of the dam. About two kilometers upstream is the Rebordelo dam .
The Bouçoais-Sonim dam was completed in 2004. It is used to generate electricity. The dam is owned by the Hidroeléctrica de Pinhel Lda. (HP).
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 43 m above the foundation level . The top of the wall is at a height of 341 m . The length of the top of the wall is 87 m. The volume of the structure is 19,500 m³.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 1,000 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief. The design flood is 1,100 m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring was determined to be once every 100 years.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 334 m (maximum 340 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.0153 km² and holds 1.365 million m³ of water. The minimum storage target is 332 m.
power plant
Two Francis turbines are installed with a maximum output of 10 MW. The average annual production is 30 million kWh .
The power station is owned by Hidroeléctrica de Pinhel Lda. (HP) and is also operated by HP.
