The Burgães dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Burgães or Barragem [Engenheiro] Duarte Pacheco ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Aveiro district . It dams the Caima , a right (northern) tributary of the Vouga, to a reservoir. The town of Vale de Cambra is about two kilometers west of the dam.

The project to build the dam began in 1939. The construction was completed in 1940. The dam is used for irrigation. It is owned by the Associação de Beneficiários de Burgães .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a gravity dam made of masonry with a height of 28 m above the foundation level (20 m above the river bed). The top of the wall is at a height of 108 m above sea level . The length of the wall crown is 66 m and its width 1 m. The volume of the dam is 4,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 11 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 312 m³ / s via the flood discharge.

Reservoir

With a normal storage target of 108 m (maximum 110 m at high water), the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.05 km² and holds 0.408 million m³ of water - 0.33 million m³ of this can be used.
